Nine cars shortlisted from more than 40 cars launched here this year

It is that time of year again, when motoring writers from Life! and Torque thrust and parry as they deliberate on which car deserves to be ST Car of the Year.

From a master list of more than 40 new cars launched by authorised agents in Singapore between November last year and last month, the judges shortlisted 13.

This was whittled down to a final list of nine, among which one will be crowned ST COTY 2013.

Will it be Jaguar's loud and dramatic F-Type? Will Kia's standard-beating K3 have a chance against Volkswagen's standard-bearing Golf?

Or will Porsche, which clinched last year's title with its brilliant 911, do an encore with its equally engaging Cayman?

Maybe BMW will eventually win. After all, it has been in almost every shortlist since the awards started in 2003.

Votes have been cast and counted. The result will be announced on the last Saturday of the year in these pages.
