Renew HDB season parking via phone app

ABOUT 1,000 motorists have used a new smartphone service to renew their season parking tickets at public housing estates.

The service, launched by the Housing Board last month, has already been used by about 40,000 people, said the Housing Board yesterday.

It is part of the Mobile@HDB app, and includes a map displaying the location and distance of alternative carparks, should a first-choice site be full.

There are about 1,800 HDB carparks islandwide and they are becoming increasingly popular. The average take-up rate of season parking has grown from 57 per cent in 2005 to about 80 per cent last year.

Before the launch of the service on Aug 3, vehicle owners had to call or visit an HDB branch office for information on the availability of season parking.

Payments could be made through the branch office, online, or via payment kiosk AXS machines.

The mobile service is part of HDB's efforts to leverage technology and convenience, and is available on both iPhone and Android phones.

Ang Mo Kio resident Jimmy Tan, 29, said the app made season parking renewal easy. "I'm able to check how many spaces are still available for popular carparks and choose the nearest ones accordingly," said the engineer. "Scrolling through the phone at your own time beats waiting in line at the branch office."

Bedok resident Glen Sim, a 35-year-old IT consultant, said: "Whenever I renewed my season parking, I would have to drive 10 minutes away to the nearest AXS machine at Bedok Central. But now I can renew it on the go whenever it's due."

Tickets in popular carparks can be renewed for up to three months, while less popular ones can be booked for up to a year.

Apart from carpark services, the app includes other HDB-related information on buying or selling flats, as well as popular places to shop.

"Our residents no longer have to visit our counters to be served, as they can access our services online and via mobile phones," said an HDB spokesman.
