Jaguar and Audi take the cake
Good deals on wheels - Luxury Cars

This class has many closely matched contenders.

Best of the pack is the Jaguar XJ. Big, bold and beautiful, the Jag still has unmatched presence amongst its peers.

And in a segment where image and snobbery count for quite a bit, appearances matter.

A novel option is the 3-litre diesel ($360,000). Unfortunately, both this variant and the 5-litre V8 attract an annual road tax bill of around $6,000.

A more practical alternative is the Audi A8. Though some people feel it looks too much like an overgrown A4, it oozes with build quality which sets industry standards for excellence.

Once cocooned in the luxurious high-tech cabin, one soon forgets its less than original looks.

The 4.2-litre V8 may be quicker but the better buy is the 3.0 V6 at $354,038.
