Volkswagen Group Singapore has launched a five-year warranty on all new cars.

The roll-out of the extended warranty started last Saturday, marking the German company's 10th anniversary as a manufacturer-owned dealership here. The warranty is subject to a mileage cap of 100,000km, with free servicing in the first three years (subject to a mileage cap of 45,000km).

Owners with Volkswagen vehicles aged less than 36 months and with a mileage of less than 100,000km can upgrade to the five- year warranty "for a nominal fee".

Volkswagen Singapore also announced that it will report to Porsche Holding Salzburg, a fully owned retail subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, with effect from this month.

Previously, it reported to the HQ in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Lighter A8 cars to come

Audi's next A8 limousine will be lighter, thanks to four materials used for its weight-bearing body structure (left) - more materials than in any of the brand's previous production models.

With a mix of aluminium, steel, magnesium and carbon fibre-reinforced polymer, the new space frame is in keeping with the principle of "the right material in the right place and in the right amount".

Uber warned of court injunction in Waymo lawsuit

A United States judge on Wednesday warned Uber Technologies it could face a court injunction that would bar a key Uber executive from working on its self-driving car project, Reuters reported.

In a high-profile case filed by Alphabet Inc's Waymo unit, the litigation pits two Silicon Valley giants against each other over technology at the heart of a potential revolution in the auto industry.

US District Judge William Alsup said evidence amassed by Waymo to bolster its case of being robbed was extraordinary.

"I've never seen a record this strong in 42 years," he said.

A hearing on Waymo's request for an injunction on Uber's self-driving programme is scheduled for next month.

Waymo sued ride services company Uber earlier this year, claiming that former Waymo executive Anthony Levandowski downloaded more than 14,000 confidential documents before leaving the company to join Uber.
