Porsche is raising funds for SportCares by auctioning a 1:1 replica of a Porsche 919 Hybrid

PORSCHE FUND-RAISER

Singapore-based Porsche Asia Pacific is auctioning a 1:1 scale replica (without drivetrain) of the 919 Hybrid, its 2014 Le Mans endurance racing car.

One of 13 such replicas worldwide, this collectible will be sold to raise money for SportCares, a foundation that seeks to improve the lives of underprivileged children, at-risk youths, needy seniors and people with disabilities.

The auction is at www.919hybrid auction.com and will end at 9pm tomorrow to coincide with the completion of this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France.

FORMIDABLE FORD MOTOR

American carmaker Ford has revealed its most powerful engine yet. The naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V8, which has been developed for the Shelby GT350 version of the Ford Mustang, generates 526bhp of horsepower and 581Nm of torque.

With a redline of 8,250rpm, it is also the highest-revving production eightcylinder in the history of Ford, whose very first V8 engines hit the streets more than 80 years ago.

7 SERIES LIMO GETS FANCY

BMW's latest 7 Series limousine is ready to drive Mercedes S-Class towkays to distraction.

Technical highlights include the use of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in its body structure (which saves up to 130kg in weight), the option of plug-in petrol- electric hybrid power (740Le model) and laser headlights.

Fancy features to make big bosses happy include Remote Control Parking (with the driver outside the vehicle), a "starlit sky" panoramic glass roof and a gadgety iDrive 5.0 operating system complete with hand-gesture interface.

The new 7 Series will arrive in Singapore in November.

VALET PARKING AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

Daimler and Bosch are working together on a fully automated valet parking service.

Daimler's car-sharing subsidiary, car2go, will be the first to deploy the experimental system, which starts the vehicle that then drives autonomously to an assigned parking space or designated pick-up/drop-off zone.

CAR ART AT HYUNDAI IN SEOUL

Hyundai has parked a new automotive- art installation in its Seoul flagship showroom. It is a cutaway display of a Genesis Coupe, with a network of miniature roads for camera-equipped toy cars to drive around the two-door vehicle while they transmit real-time videos to big screens on the wall. The exhibit will be in place until Sept 30.
