Emergency clinic for your driving

THE Singapore Motor Sports Association will be holding a driving clinic in the last week of October.

The clinic is held in two stages with a theory session on Oct 25 from 7 - 10 pm, and practical driving lessons in the Kallang Carparks on Oct 29 for the whole day.

It aims to improve driving skills in general, with coping with emergency situations in particular, and will be conducted by seasoned SMSA campaigners.

The clinic costs $200 per person. For details, contact the SMSA on 227-7889, or try the website:

Bourne wins in Malaysia

CALTEX Havoline Racing driver Possum Bourne of New Zealand won the Rally of Malaysia 2000 last weekend, securing the Asia Pacific Rally Championship in the process.

Bourne and co-driver Mark Stacey took their Subaru home four minutes and 53 seconds ahead of their main championship rival, Karamjit Singh of Malaysia. This gives them an unassailable lead in the championship, with 61 points and one race remaining.

AA and BP Team-up for the Grand Prix

THE Formula One Championship may be settled, but there is still bound to be fireworks on the track in Sepang next weekend.

The Automobile Association of Singapore is offering a package deal, including a visit to the Lotus manufacturing plant, three nights' accommodation, Grand Prix tickets, an escorted motorcade and more.

Prices start at $458 each (twin-share) and range up to $1,138, depending on seating at the race. For details on the AA/BP Formula One Grand Prix Motorcade, contact the AAS Programmes and Activities Department on 831-2140.

LS is more and available

LEXUS has launched its new flagship model, and Singapore is the first market outside Japan where the new car will be available.

The LS430 is a technological tour de force. Lexus claims that it surpasses the already impressive LS400 in terms of quietness and refinement.

Overall length is the same as the LS400, but a longer wheelbase makes for more passenger space, and the new 4.3 litre V8 is able to propel the car to 100kmh in an impressively-swift 6.7 seconds, all the while maintaining the same fuel economy figures as the LS400.

The LS430 sells for $363,888 including COE. Contact Borneo Motors on 749-3288 for details.
