The front-wheel-drive, high-riding Å koda Yeti manages to produce car-like handling
A Different Beast

ONE of the dinkiest SUVs to be introduced here is the Škoda Yeti. This quirkily styled model is powered by the Volkswagen Group’s latest gem of an engine – the 1.2-litre turbocharged direct injection unit mated to an equally brilliant seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

This new VW engine (the German carmaker owns the Skoda brand) is not only a good performer but also extremely efficient when it comes to fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

The front-wheel-drive, high-riding Yeti nevertheless manages to produce car-like handling. It is relatively small at just 4.2 metres in length, which means it is easy to manoeuvre in the congested urban context. But because of its 1.69-metre height, its cabin is nevertheless spacious and practical.

Another of its virtues is ride comfort, despite the 2,578mm wheelbase. Hopefully though, you are not one of those who can’t get over its unusual looks.
